I’m all about reading, and while I enjoy curling up with a good book and just relaxing by myself, I’ve missed the kinds of discussions from my undergrad days, the ones that stemmed from a room full of people reading the same book and talking about their experiences with a particular story.
And so the NovelTea Book Club was imagined. And happened. And is still happening! If you’re looking for a chill, commitment-free book club (though it helps if you’ve read the book in order to talk about it), you’ve come to the right place. NovelTea is a monthly book club for readers of My Life as a Teacup; lovers of good stories; and fans of literary fiction, YA fiction, sci-fi/fantasy, and the occasional classic novel!
Here’s how NovelTea works:
- Keep an eye out for the upcoming month’s book club selection towards the end of the previous month. Usually this a week or two before the month ends, to give you some time to decide if you’re interested in participating for that month, and if so, to get your hands on a copy of the book from either your local library or the book store. I’m usually tweeting or instagramming the selection, but if you’d like to be the first to know (and vote in the selection!) make sure you follow the official NovelTea Facebook group.
- Over the course of a month we’ll read the selected novel. But that’s not all – you’ll have plenty of opportunities to join in the discussion as we read the book together. The main discussions happen in the NovelTea Book Club’s Facebook group but you’ll also find insights on Instagram, Twitter, etc. under the #NovelTeaBookClub hashtag.
- Not sure what to talk about or how to get started voicing your bookish opinions? Here are 10 tips for having a stellar book club discussion.
- On the last Tuesday of that month I typically post my own recap of the novel on YouTube. I encourage you to write or record your own review to share on your blog or in the Facebook group as well!
What are you waiting for? Join the club and start reading!
